Exactly. Every issue of the New York Times is on microfilm in the basement of the library. They don't just get to delete their tweet. They wrote it, they own it.

"no longer reflects [...] reality" They sound like someone who doesn't know what the word "reality" refers to. And to the extremely large fraction of people who don't know it either, a failed prediction doesn't imply that they shouldn't listen.

Specifically, read "reality" as "tribal consensus map". It was a fact about the consensus map that it said "won't be pandemic". Then the consensus map changed. In this unfortunately common headspace, there is no reason for them to apologise or be not listened to.
