Today's #coronavirusUK update was really heartening —
Govt advised strict measures of avoiding all non-essential contact.
Not forced.
In other words: when the outcome really matters, we are being trusted.
They will enforce if necessary (reasonable!), but expect it not to be.

This case is much trickier, because transmission chains amount to a group of people inadvertently and more-or-less unknowingly cooperating to maim or kill the weak and old. The path between going out for a few beers and killing a diabetic two towns down is totally obscured.

I don't support laws against "texting while driving," e.g. If you start driving carelessly or hit something, you should be stopped and charged. But good luck arguing against it. You immediately get accused of wanting people to die in a terrible car crash, and you can't recover.

Well, fine, substitute for careless driving — that seems like a fine place to draw the line. Plenty of people drive in a visibly careless way and don't harm anyone.
