Unfortunately, I think one or two of the extant US outbreaks will probably have to be poorly managed before regions that have more time make real adjustments. Hopefully we can effectively move critical care patients around and avoid dooming any city to rationing.

Yes, you’re right. I think the “don’t tread on me” factor will pose challenges as well. Also—the threat of revenue loss will delay hospital preparedness. The right thing is to halt elective care per the Surgeon General’s advice, but that approach bleeds cash...
