Actually grappling with death with the gravitas it deserves is so painful that it’s often difficult to make the story about anything else if you want to do it “right”
All these "superpowered kid is too strong, murders adults with reckless abandon" movies... As if a typical child old enough to understand what death is wouldn't react to accidentally murdering someone by locking themselves in a room, totally beset by grief and terror

Dark comedies can kind of flirt with the trope, but they often aren’t really about “grappling with death”, they’re more about dissociating from reality as a coping mechanism

Couple weeks ago I would have agreed more. However I currently see a *lot* of 20-somethings IRL who do understand what death is, responding to the fact that they will be
