How else could you make an excuse that you need to help a friend in the middle of the date unless it's an emergency? Would be totally rude if it wasn't.

I haven't answered your poll, but a priori even *I* would have selected the option I'm arguing against here. I would never lie about a genuine emergency, and I'd also lean toward the option specifically described as "gentle."
(The reason I haven't answered your poll is that I genuinely cannot bring myself to click my preferred option as described.)
