Yeah the main thing that's had me concerned for the last week or two is this yellow line doubling every 3-4 days—& increasingly fast. But at the time I started to be concerned most people were seeing a line that looked nearly flat because (A) shown linear & (B) dwarfed by Chinapic.twitter.com/xLB5uEY3ma

My favorite is when someone compares two numbers and one is a lot bigger and they’re like “ITS EXPONENTIALLY BIG”

In China that number was 2. It took 9 weeks to shut down China. 3 weeks to find it, 3 more weeks to fail to cover it up, and boom.

Yup, and it's because the technical meaning is not taught in school! Like, kids learn properties of exponents, solving exp equations, etc but never that "growing exponentially" doesn't just mean growing fast, but that it technically means growing at a constant percentage rate.

E.g. ,f(x)=2^x models growth at a constant rate of 100%, while f(x)=1.2^x, a rate of 20%, and f(x)=1.01^x, a rate of 1%. The latter is slow growth but still, technically, exponential. I have to teach this at university, although students learn exponential functions in high-school
