Issue was, people only washed hands and refused handshakes to Asian-looking people. Until the first community spread case in Washington...
This was true of the crazies who were ranting about bat-eating or whatever. But there were many folks who caught on to this early and were changing their behavior broadly. Many of the first adapters were elderly ethnic Chinese! They understood what could feasibly be happening.

Agree with you! I think I've over-indexed on the early crazies. Precautions are rly good and should be applied uniformly. Tho word on the grounds from NYC is that a bunch of Asian Americans are afraid of going out wearing N95 because we've been assaulted for wearing masks

When looking for response effectiveness, I trust SKorea over US CDC (Trump seems to want to cover up infections/dont want to test). SKorea is giving out equivalent N95 masks to prevent community infection.
