If you advertise that you only accept/hire <n% of applicants, what you're telling me is less that you're exclusive and more that you don't properly communicate with potential applicants and consider it beneficial to you to waste their time

Investors are less trigger shy with YC companies because they know that at the very least these companies made it through a tough screening process run by experienced folks. But this is an unintended consequence rather than a selling point of YC.

Not to me: I think the credentialling and network of YC are the two greatest benefits at this point from a founders perspective. I haven’t gone through the program but I doubt there’s THAT much content that differs from their more publicly available info.
