Lots of "pay taxes instead, Bezos!" as though - climate change is suddenly kinda meh - subsidies/tax breaks are unilaterally created by the people to whom they are offered - a federal gov operating on $4,746B this year alone is ~$10B short of fixing climate change themselves

As a metaphor for climate change, I think the proper conclusion to draw is that most people don't actually believe the fire is real. The fire is "real" when it's useful for making some political points they like, helping "their guy" win, or scoring social points; otherwise, meh.

(In this analogy, maybe an operational sprinkler system would actually be useful against the blaze. It doesn't change the fact that there are clearly other means by which fires are put out, and some of them are more actually accessible for *this* fire.)

I'm saying there are people who believe that the only possible way to save their house is to fix their sprinkler system. Maybe this is a crazy belief but of you do believe it, then it makes sense to be upset at the people throwing water on the fire while dismantling the sprinkler

I know, I'm reading you loud and clear. I'm just introducing "some people lie to themselves and others" as an alternative explanation to true madness.
