Lots of "pay taxes instead, Bezos!" as though - climate change is suddenly kinda meh - subsidies/tax breaks are unilaterally created by the people to whom they are offered - a federal gov operating on $4,746B this year alone is ~$10B short of fixing climate change themselves

tbh, the cynicism is annoying enough for the undergirding "meh" sentiment alone — like, the second Bezos decides to take a real crack at it climate change is no longer an all-hands-on-deck imminent existential threat, but more of a checklist item post socialist revolution

What really irritates me is just that I don't think very many people actually care. This isn't how people act when they care. When your house is on fire, you don't start asking around to figure out whether the firefighters are pure enough of heart to put the fucking thing out

Imagine if we all just started calling these people out as climate deniers

IMO, you can add all the candidates who wax poetic about decommissioning nuclear when they know perfectly fucking well that this would immediately spike fossil fuel consumption, as it has everywhere it's been implemented. Sanders? Warren? Climate deniers with national platforms

"Y'ain't sober if ya show up drunk to the meetings" is my southern-style aphorism for this flavor of nonsense

People really seem to not realise that Bezos doesn’t actually have $110 Billion Dollars lying around, it’s mostly tied to the share price of Amazon Stock. Seize it and watch that value plummet and no one has anything.
-
It's linked to the "everyone is replaceable" idea. Thus, you could replace him with any woke person and Amazon would be so much better.

Its both exciting and scary to realize how much geoengineering (solar reduction etc.) could potentially be implemented *unilaterally* by someone with ~$20-30 billion to spend + determination.

i'll chip in. i see a lot of people thinking ideas are common, and they are for common ideas. then there are the ideas which break our common understanding of things -- paradigm shifts. those are not that common. the thing is most people don't have a clue when they see one.
