I think the sheer concentration of people is a big problem, and also cruise ships are just not designed for quarantine, everything is connected and close together

A priori, hospitals look like (and can be) a terrible idea. But they're actually demonstrative of the fact that most illnesses, under conditions of reasonably limited human flow + high sanitization, aren't *that* infectious. A few are. Those they put under lock and key.

yes, but cruise ships are not hospitals and turning one into a hospital is not trivial

I'm going to stop trying now. Feel free to humor me or not.

idk, i am but a humble virologist, this is not my specialty but i think you are drastically underestimating how hard it is to stop the spread of infectious diseases that don't require close contact

Where am I doing that? At no point was "intectious diseases are easy to stop" my argument. It was roughly the opposite of that?

In the context of highly controlled conditions, like well-run hospitals or, presumably, areas surrounded by water and currently under room-level quarantine, yes. Spread is usually containable. If it's not, that's a red flag. Yes? No?

I guess that depends on what you mean by red flag we already know that it's reasonably contagious; the fact that they couldn't contain it on a hospital is not particularly surprising to me
