Ultimately, the teacher is the one assigning the homework, and it's perfectly reasonable for the parent to tell the teacher that he or she is not going to force the child. Everyone may be trying to make the best of the situation, but the children are the ones without leverage.

Frankly, the school system as it is relies on parents to willingly assume the role of an agent of that system. Go through the appropriate channels, but ultimately nobody but you will decide whether or not to yell at your child for not doing nonsense work.https://twitter.com/torriangray/status/1226549105419157504?s=21 …

My broader take here is that if you want me to tell a child to listen to you or that he's the one in the wrong, you better be telling him something worth listening to or rebuking him reasonably, like you would any adult you respect. Otherwise, fuck off.

I almost failed high school because of homework They had created a system to where doing homework counted more than assignments and testing to graduate students I didn't do homework. Instead I made As/Bs of tests while my teachers asked why I was "failing"

There's another part to this too, which is that some parents are advocating for homework and get pissed when they don't have it. Looking at school reviews I've seen stuff like "Kid never comes home with homework, 1 star". And "Lots of homework, 5 stars!"

Honestly? I never did homework in highschool. I finished highschool with a 72 average, went on to go to one of the best canadian universities, and Im about to start my PhD in CS with a strong pure math twist. I’m telling my younger cousin to do the same (ignore HW assignments)

I’m a strong believer that highschool and lower education is beyond stupid. Children need to learn how to be self motivated and learn complex subjects on their own... The idea of classrooms and homework as a whole is awful. The schedule for schools is awful....
