Honestly, I'd love to hear a parent say something to the effect of "if you all can't do what you need to do in 7 hours per day, I don't know what to tell you. I know what this kid can do in 30 minutes."

Homework policies are often set at the school/district level, so while I really advocate for parents speaking up, please don't go lecturing teachers about this. They know how you feel. Have one conversation, find out who sets the policy, take it up with them.

End homework for Elementary School. I'd still work on math facts with my 3rd grader & read with my 1st grader, & they'd be less exhausted without the busywork. I'm also tired of cutesie projects & parties w limited value that just add to my frazzled brain.

Just this week alone, my 1st grader needs to create a superhero costume & glue 100 items to a painted cardboard cut out in shape of a zero, make valentines, dress up in a suit for a party, bring food & 12 battery operated candles for the party. Stop the madness.

Is there any data on amounts of assigned homework? I was pleasantly surprised by our public elementary school’s policy of assigning no-to-minimal homework. Curious if that’s a new trend.
-
The evidence on homework is pretty mixed. There are more positives in high school; I think the evidence points at minimal-to-none for young children.

Homework is to be copied from other kids 5 minutes before class starts That way you don't only get more time to read but also practice your speed-writing skills

Is homework load not still on the downswing? Thought the academic literature was pretty clear and grade schools were starting to take notice.

I would guess amount of homework assigned went up because parents wanted it since they make school choice decision.
