My [limited] personal experience is that journalists will manipulate you & your words into misleading / damaging phrases that fit their preconceived narrative.

I have had personal encounters with reporters from NYT, LAT, ABC, CBS, NBC, WSJ, and others. To a person, they were duplicitous liars, looking to retrofit facts into a narrative, and hadn't done even rudimentary homework. Since then, I've been suspicious of every story I've read.

Everyone is wary of journalist these days. Publicly posting a DM like that is the power play. Plenty of other ways he could have played it, this was the wrong one.
