I dunno, I'm probably being too paranoid (if that's possible) but i mean look at the people who built it, who funded those people, etc.. it seems more possible that they didn't like the results and introduced "issues". Nobody is messing up a counter unless they did it on purpose.

Realistically, the element that failed is either networking, UI, or authentication. You can *always* fuck any of those things up, no matter how simple the task they're being used for.
