Probably need to find a way to disconnect people from the myth of happiness early so they don't think things can work out that way.

I would say that achievement and control are in many ways more critical than importance. The job I felt most empowered and important at was literally mowing greens on a golf course. Because I could look at mowed greens and raked traps and had independence about how it got done

There's no reason that something like that can't be important *to you.* I am myself a self-selected duck slave

Kids also need to learn early on that even the most truly awesome job is going to consist of long periods of not-so-awesome punctuated by much shorter periods of AWESOME! All the awesome jobs I've had -- parent, lawyer, paramedic, teacher, you name it -- have been 75%+ "emails".

That being said, though, you're absolutely correct: Being a lawyer so rarely seemed *viscerally* important + interesting/fun *to me* that eventually I switched to healthcare & education, & have never regretted it, even when it involved starting over at $5/hr to make it happen.

Strong agree. Also, Meditation will make crappy work WORSE. Emotions don't go away after enough meditation, they get revealed so then you need to deal with them head on!

The key is to make the squandering of one's life for money into a religious sacrament.
