But if you can make the thing you want cheaper or more effective than the alternatives, you don't have to coerce anyone else to adopt it. Cooperation becomes the organic result of a positive-sum gift.

This is part of the reason I loathe self-flagellation re: climate science, particularly when it leads people to reject technological solutions that don't require them to atone for their sins. Playing status games based on masochism on a global scale is not a smart move

but cant you can coerce cooperation through the market by throwing enough money around? buying out all the competition/making things so cheap nobody can compete. the cheaper option is not the most equitable but will win the market out of peoples desperation
