It's a good thought experiment for cultivating empathy, but as I've said elsewhere I suspect that the visceral rage response to killers who kill for personal pleasure or selectively target the weakest people serves a social immune system role that I'd be hesitant to tamper with
The majority of people that I’ve encountered that have strong opinions on death penalty/life imprisonment often lack first-hand experience/contact w/such offenders. Those who have, & have detailed knowledge of the offenses, almost always have little to no empathy for them.
