A small counter: I think glee at vengeance/revenge fantasies are often a direct result of perceived helplessness. People tend to feel this way when they see an animal, child or vulnerable person purposefully rendered completely unable to protect themselves and then harmed
yea, so I'm not particularly mad at the people with the vengeance fantasies so much as the system that has left people like this
I don't disagree, I just want to point out that vengeance in this context may be a societal immune system response: if you target the weak and helpless to avoid any fighting back, the strong will come after you
