Is it possible that we have some bias of rationality over harmony? I could see how it would be hurtful to feel that your efforts are unappreciated and to feel some obligation to do certain "caring" things (e.g. make tea).
The appropriate thing to do, if you're feeling unappreciated, is to scale back your "caring" to a more sustainable level. In reality, when people who nurture resentment do this they tend to feel *more* upset when their efforts aren't missed. (This tells you something.)
Ofc, some people may prefer a workplace with more social "give-and-take" throughout the day. That's fine, but it's a *preference,* not a morally obligatory structure.
(And these people probably shouldn't seek work with developers, who are notoriously unproductive if they can't hit flow.)
They'll have to be instructed to stand immediately to the side of their own chair, direct their eyes to a far corner of the ceiling, and gracefully shout "WOULD ANYONE LIKE A TEA? PLEASE SET YOUR CUP ON THE FLOOR AND KICK IT OVER."
*Except the hot ones. The hot ones gotta brush the fingers on that cup exchange or they're being cold and, dare I say it? Obviously sexist
