Teenagers aren't inherently aimless know-nothings; you typically have to waste their time for years before they finally internalize that nothing they could with it matters.
I know a 9 yo who already raves about what a waste of time school is. And because he/she is very bright and an atypical learner, I can't entirely disagree. I have a feeling if given the means to do what they wanted, they'd probably do just fine in life.

All that energy... squandered, left to the marketeers to manipulate their behavior.
On average they don’t learn that. Post time and full time jobs in or after school, bands, other artistic projects. School would still be much better as all project based learning all the time but most teenagers aren’t learned helplessness depressed.
