Almost all strange ideas are wrong, and they're usually not even wrong in a useful direction. But the exceptions are the only vector for progress — the real threat isn't error, but homogeneity of thought. Human knowledge is not a loading bar that steadily fills on its own.

Only people who could possibly have a correct idea and convince others it is correct need that capability. Nobody else needs it. New ideas need significant resistance as well, otherwise there will be no coordination between people.
