Our current frame is about "smart" and "stupid" people, and through that lens it makes sense to make coursework easier to fluff your grad/"student success" numbers. But it won't work. But isn't the larger issue that Algebra is as irrelevant to most people's lives as Greek? What's the point of force-feeding math that very few will every use or remember?

PG's point was that altering coursework to "improve" outcomes is just playing accounting games. My point was that it's hard to dumb down a curriculum enough to hide that you can't actually teach. Your point is also a good point, and one I've made before. There's room for them all
