And I don't really mean that in some hippie way, either. Withering in a job that's wrong for you reduces your optionality over time while making you increasingly vulnerable to a caring upcomer. Traditionally, you prevent homeostasis via office politics. Not my pic of "success"

Alternatively, people may say this sort of thing when they really don't work very hard to make their money because, for example, they're in a good position to coast. IMO they're basically trying to get you to internalize the idea that *they* are successful Because Money

I prefer the traditional concept of success, whereby you genuinely try to accomplish something, and then you do.
