Nobody is saying that animals are human. This is just a stupid comment and not one I should address, but I'm getting tired of responses that play these rhetorical games. People know what a species is; you're implying something you won't say and I don't appreciate cowardice.

As a child, I wrapped my first pet — a little guinea pig — in a quilting square I'd spent hours making, before putting him in the dirt. This was an upset in the family, because it was such a waste. I'm sure they thought that did something other than create distance.
