Only for people with labs: if you're in the social sciences or the humanities you can go or not as you please. Oxford is rare in this, and I loved it. I crashed lectures I wanted and skipped ones I didn't like. If you learn, and pass your exams, nobody complains.
We have to noice that the incentives are broken. I've just spent a few days in Oxford hearing about students doing important work being forced to attend lectures they're uninterested in.
