"Wine caves" is a strong meme for Current Day, both for the socialist-leaning left in earnest and their opposition in satire, because it so clearly illustrates that the perceived enemy is not necessarily power, but luxury itself.

There *is* something weird about positional goods, though, because the whole point of $900 wine is to be unaffordable by people who don't have $900 to spend on wine. No expansion of supply will change that.

Exactly. I ate a Peking Duck yesterday that'd cost $160 if served at a classy restaurant (it's big enough for 4 meals). I'm poor, but grew it, killed it, and cooked it myself. A vineyard owner serving expensive wine they made themselves is nearly the same as serving boxed wine.
