And yup, it's fine to describe phenotype wrt intersex as a "spectrum," but there's a bit of sleight of hand going on if you then assume more than two sexes. There's a reason "male" or "female" characteristics, "masculinizing" vs. "feminizing" hormones, etc. remain useful concepts

100%. To add to that, it’s not too unfair to describe a spectrum with 99.9% of the instantiations concentrated at one far end or the other as binary.
