It's amazing that you can come to those kinds of conclusions based on a single tweet. You don't know anything about me, just as I don't know anything about you. Just because I don't like what Thiel did to Gawker doesn't make me a rape apologist

I know exactly what Thiel did, I researched and wrote about it while it was happening. Did you do that? Thiel funded lawsuits against Gawker for a decade trying to find one to put them out of business. Does that sound fair to you?

I know Thiel paid legal fees. I know he had a vendetta against Gawker. So fucking what? Gawker was so horrifically disregarding of this guy's right to sexual privacy that a jury awarded $25m in punitive damages. Would you have preferred Gawker successfully kept this out of court?

In what insane world do the motivations of the person paying the lawyers' fees dictate whether or not the victim of a very real and very significant sexual violation deserves their day in court? If a friend helps pay my bills, do I deserve any less justice? FFS, man.

I'm sure you don't think you're a terrible person. But I reiterate: stay away from people who've been victimized in this manner. You lack the judgment.

There's something genuinely fucked up about the lens you've chosen to apply to this situation, specifically your singular, exclusive concern with a figure who is, at best, peripheral to a real & serious case. It all comes second to getting the target. I hope this keeps you up.
