Especially since there are so many little techniques to help discover interests and develop confidence. Also weird because it’s critical to harness interest in domains such as art, sports music (where you need deliberate practice to develop skills) but rarely in e.g. math

Have you taken a WAIS-IV? They are many hours long and need to be interpreted properly by a psychologist. They can notice things like that and adjust it. I for example, have slow processing speed but otherwise high scores in everything else, so the psych discarded the result.
