Society in general should be much gentler to new parents, who are trying to adapt within a set of societal constraints that are generally hostile to infant needs. I meant my comment in earnest; some babies seem to do much better than others with routine separation.
All that said, the societal focus has been on figuring out how to make babies fit into a world not created for them rather than making the world accommodate the needs of new human beings, and I think we're reaping what we've sewn in our physical, mental & interpersonal health.
Yes, I really enjoy the Danish models re: co-housing and communal child rearing arrangements. There's not currently the societal will to make that work in most places, and it does require a lot of trust within a community, but it seems to me a good localized solution
