In general, it's absurdly easy to manipulate people's political/ethical attention in ways that they don't even notice upon intense reflection, especially when they're angry or trying to win/avoid losing. This is a super bad thing

The point here isn't whether or not people should hate Gun Manufacturer Guy as much as Facebook Guy, the point is that they can tweet about both political issues approximately ten thousand times without noticing that the question has never occurred to them

FWIW, I'm pretty sure I've got my own massive blind spots and malware with root access; I'm thinking about this stuff because I'm hoping there's some way to systemically clean house from inside the system

Zuckerberg is different because he also controls a majority of the voting shares. Smith & Wesson has been owned by various private equity firms and is now a subsidiary of a larger group, so going after their CEO is basically pointless.

What percentage would you say have (a) thought about it -> looked into it -> decided it's pointless to do anything vs. (b) not even thought about it?

Same thing with all the anti-trust conversations. If one was to go make a list of the companies abusing consumers the worst via market power - tech companies would not crack the top 100.

It's unclear to me how opposition to concentrated wealth differs between "faceless" corporations and prominent rich owners. Not sure how to approach figuring it out, either.

As someone who does not self-identity as "progressive" or leftist but is against unregulated weapons (and dislikes Facebook's impact on politics but doesn't see legislation as the answer) maybe I can clarify: I don't fear Smith & Wesson. I fear the NRA. I know who runs the NRA.

I don't mind Smith & Wesson manufacturing guns. I mind unregulated access to weapons of staggering lethality (and yes, evidence shows that gun control reduces deaths; see the world outside of the USA). Guns have some legimate utility. NRA policy results in needless suffering.
