Are there such people? Who want to come across as ‘rich’? (As opposed to either wanting to be rich, or wanting to come across as sophisticated/high status). I don’t think I know any but that might be my limited circle

Yes; I think this is what drives people who want "fuck you money," and specifically use that phrasing. Ultimately, being very rich generates a lot more actual material freedom than being very classy, and some people would prefer to look free than high-status
