One of the downsides to dog ownership they don't tell you about is the hunger strikes that can occur whenever you travel and which leave you feeling like you've committed some sort of nation-state level UN violation

Not mine. He used to even shut down the treats. Now we're able to leave him at home with someone coming to watch him, and he does better but it's still iffy
