PS given the diversity of IQ, mental health, education, & information among adults, I'd love to hear a _principled_ argument for a minimum voting age. Why should a smart, well-informed 16-year-old not be able to vote when every delusional middle-aged Twitter troll can?

A reasonable argument is that American children & teenagers are barred from participating in & gaining experience with most aspects of public life: for the most part, they're at home, school, or activities planned for them by adults. They don't work or travel without permission.

Ofc, this would also probably be an argument for *raising* the voting age, especially now that it's become the norm for young adults to be reliant on parents and institutions to meet most of their needs without any insight into how the sausage is made well into the college years
