I've done some threads — most shocking to me is that we have data showing that early start times not only reduce student cognitive ability (and probably exacerbate early mental illness, though that's under-researched) but contribute significantly to high schoolers' car accidents
IMO, the best immediately available moves are to (a) push class start times forward *significantly* & offer beds to early arrivals; (b) override legislation that bars older minors from being home unsupervised; (c) turn schools into loosely-supervised free play zones after class
