It is not compassionate or progressive to sustain the highest property crime rates in the country. It's local government + law enforcement's job to protect people who are trying to put a life together from scratch, before they have the financial bandwidth to protect themselves.

Please also note that Chesa has said that he won't take drunk drivers to trial the first time they're caught. This is absurdly dangerous, especially in a city with so much foot and cyclist traffic. All three of the other candidates are reasonable. Leave him off the ballot.pic.twitter.com/M5VtIwp429

To underscore this... I had a close family member who was charged with a DUI. The trial was really tough on them, but the judge forced treatment & it was ultimately a really great thing. They went on to lead alcoholism recovery meetings & it became a big part of their life.

Prosecution is not always a bad thing for people who make serious mistakes due to addiction or mental health issues. It's an important part of the system that forces people to get treatment or resources for the root issues. Letting people go on down a destructive path is not kind
