Also, can we like... talk about how "the poor can't help but be criminals" is actually a really shitty way to look at the poor?

Here you have someone who stole at least $800 in cash from her employers, stole packages, credit cards & documents from her neighbors while living in public housing, tested positive 3x for meth while in rehab she didn't have to pay for. She's just a crummy person, y'all.

There are people who seriously vow the first time they ever receive public assistance that they're going to use that help to do whatever they need to do to make an honest living, however unglamorous. People like this woman just make a mockery of the compassion others deserve

Always go with the narrative that gets the pageviews, I guess...

That story is aggravating. To summarize: Portrero Hill residents are trying to stop a persistent thief who lives in the area and will continue to steal packages as long as they do. One resident moved away after the thief threatened them (gunshot). Yet it’s very “both-sides”-ist.

That resident didn't actually end up moving, and there wasn't an actual gunshot, just verbal threat of one, but yeah, I agree with you. It was a weird read. Like I'm supposed to feel conflicted that theft gets you charged with theft.

Wow. This article has an incredibly poor take. Well, really, the author seems too cowardly to make any normative claims in here, but their bias for being.... pro-theft???.... is quite clear throughout every paragraph.

Yep. I'm not even sure where to start with "people who steal stuff are oppressed by those trying to prevent theft" as a mindset.

Eh, just read the article for the facts. It ended up being one of the most interesting articles I've read in a while, which is extremely strange given the subject matter. I think the subtext of class/racial disparity is what really grabs you.
