Just... how even
Super fast response time, I called within 1 minute of the crash & first responders arrived ~3 minutes later
Fire dept is sweeping up debris. The truck is blocking my view but afaict there aren't any obvious signs that anyone was seriously hurt
Drivers should definitely not do whatever it is that causes this to happen but for the life of me I cannot figure out what that is
Some folks RTing this w/ comments about car culture, which aren't broadly unfair, but - you don't just accidentally flip a car after this intersection at the legal speed of 25 or 30 - cars are useful here if you need to travel at certain times of day/night, it's not a safe area
Cars are statistically very dangerous & tons of accidents involve the sort of "driver error" that you're probably lying to yourself about if you think you're immune to it, but... I think it's fair to say that whatever happened here was closer to The Fast and the Furious territory
Cars cause about 1 in 100 deaths in the US which ends up translating to somewhere in the magnitude of about a 1 in 10,000 chance of dying per year in a crash.y I feel like people really underestimate the danger of vehicles.
I think they do underestimate the risks, despite a much larger number having personal experience with serious non-fatal accidents... part of it is just that it feels intractable on the individual level, w affordable housing in otherwise safe neighborhoods so far from city centers
