It seems like there's no longer *any* pressure on public servants to defend the arguments they're making, or to even make them *appear defensible,* so long as the target is right, the speech is charismatic & the phrases pattern-match to the verbal attire of the political tribe

What scares me isn't just that it's a farce, what scares me is that I actually think a large number of people listen to this **and genuinely believe they've heard a coherent and well-supported argument.** It doesn't stand up to a moment of reflection, **and it doesn't need to!**

Almost nothing said in that hearing came within spitting distance of the ostensible purpose of his testimony, which was to answer Q's about the new crypto-payments project FB is overseeing & how it would fit in existing regulatory framework. I think there was 1 AML/KYC question
