      There’s value in not being the first to market in tech, especially if that’s not your USP. Waiting for it to mature means you miss the headaches, hidden costs, and delays from early (and often unnecessary) adoption

      And if your concerned about cyber then I can say with a reasonable degree of confidence from my own personal experience, that banks are often ahead of the curve. In fact I wouldn’t be a surprise if security was one of the driving factors for the use of private cloud

      It’s an audacious claim to say cloud providers will take these players out, and not one I think I agree with. Both the cloud and on prem guys are going to be using similar tooling, and it becomes a far more cooled business enablement problem at this point

      This strikes me as akin to saying that a *physical* bank is doomed to get cut out of the market eventually if it leases rather than owns the property on which it stores its vaults, because storing paper notes is the whole business

      I think this might be the crux of it — AFAICT, if BoA can securely store value, by whatever means, there's plenty more it can turn its attentions to: value-store customer acquisition, sure, but also evaluating loans & other asset acquisitions, financial management, retail, etc.

      All of that is predicated on ZERO FAILURES of the value-store system, despite failure of that particular system being the holy grail of the absolute best profit-seeking black hats. It makes sense to focus on bringing that in-house to strengthen it. Less so to cut costs.
