In the *real* world, *real* engineers sometimes spend a full work day or more trying to solve a problem that feels like it should've been solved in 15 minutes. This is very hard to intuit without experiencing it. But it's understandable that students hate it.

right - i wish there were a good term for that. whether it's wrestling with a piece of writing, working out the reasoning for something mathematical, leaning into a programming issue, whatever, it's important that that experience happens at some point, and it can be hard to force
