I recall one instance where I was left floundering for 2 days on a serious bug with a major feature of my project & started to resent the lack of hand-holding. In hindsight, any more than was offered would've hindered the solution search process, which I *did* need to go through

In the *real* world, *real* engineers sometimes spend a full work day or more trying to solve a problem that feels like it should've been solved in 15 minutes. This is very hard to intuit without experiencing it. But it's understandable that students hate it.
