For someone like me, who has at times had to deal with people insisting that I **should** want to sleep with them, this is both a poor fit to my understanding of sexuality *and* a model with negative social ramifications

I think part of the reason I find trendy new sexualities like "sapiosexual" cringey is the implication that any firm sexual preference is an orientation, and thus that all the most important information about who you're attracted to is captured by orientation.

I'd guess the "sapiosexuals" haven't really thought this one through. If there's anything worse than having to turn a nice enough person down because you're just not into it, it's doing that with the between-the-lines implication that you also think they're too dumb for you

Being able to operate in the dating market without having introspected every nook and cranny of your own sexual attraction is useful, as is being able to obscure some of the reasons you don't want to fuck most people you meet

I just find it a little cringey that people can obviously spot conflicts of interest in finance/politics but cannot spot them in academia. What incentive exists for gender studies professors to not keep assigning labels? They either keep churning it out or have their funding cut.

While I haven't personally experienced it, I do wonder if there aren't folks out there who are so infected by their sexual preference memes, that they do basically constrain every other aspect of their being. People are capable of some pretty incredible levels of fixation, no?
