  Then there's math education, where one's guided to basically stumble on and repeat these arguments. And the actual proof method doesn't matter - just whether it's correct. At least the fun courses looked like this.

  Philosophy training builds a habit of humility and deference to those who came before you that can be hard to unwind Especially so for those who continue with academia or philosophy grad school after undergrad..

  I think it partly stems from not wanting to seem like you are ripping off the greats. But overall I totally agree. It's a shame that public philosophy is a joke nowadays because it also leaves a vacuum for grifters to fill.
