Illegal immigrants aren't a threat to Beto, or anyone much like him. But the idea that they're not a threat to *anyone's* livelihood is a luxury belief, attained by accessing education, experience & credentials that are generally off-limits to anyone in the country illegally

Because benefits are contingent on earnings, this is not a particularly compelling argument for people who believe, rightly or wrongly, that their job security is threatened by illegal immigrants. Again, it's a matter of stepping into *all* the shoes that face an impact.

Again — and I'll leave it at this, because I don't expect I'm getting anywhere — I don't think dismissive arguments starting with "if the brown people go away" will reach people who *want to work* more than they want to be cared for, and are afraid of losing that.

But feel free to combat the "magical thinking" with straight condescension all the way to another Trump or Trump-esque term, and then blame the stupid people who just wouldn't listen to reason.
