We *did* actually fail Greta Thunberg We created a situation where a child was so ridden with anxiety about global catastrophe that she stopped eating, and then we praised her for skipping school to vent her anger Her obsession could have made her a scientist, maker, builder https://twitter.com/Education4Libs/status/1180669227931451392 …

This is a highly flawed argument. First, she is likelier to have a greater global impact on this path, than she will as a scientist, maker, or builder. Second, she is still 16, so being a scientist, maker, or builder is not at all closed off to her.

yeah, Greta is learning way more about climate change than almost any other 16 year old. Not like the opportunity cost of a high schooler's time and effort is that high.

But that's the problem, isn't it? We created a situation where, by default, her time would be wasted. That's not something we had to do. And when she does speak about climate science, she's just... wrong, often. The world is not 11 years from certain doom.

Where did the '11 year' figure come from? Just Googled it to no result. More generally, the actual problem is probably a Slow Elevator problem; different to how it seems. I suggest it might be an adversarial politicking system that has forced rhetoric from logos towards pathos.

If you have take issue with how Greta Thurnberg presents issues, you should also have a problem with how Donald Trump presents issues. Deeper than that, you should have a problem with the decades of work and money spinning all manner of issues.

NARRATOR: She did, in fact, have a problem with how Donald Trump presents issues.
