The truth is that we already have 24/7 emission-free energy production (nuclear), we're actively seeking out next-gen battery tech to uncage solar/wind, and there are tons of novel ideas floating around & grabbing up get-to-prototype funding. It's actually an exciting time, guys
If you have a kiddo of your own, he or she is entering a world of unprecedented access to information and direct instruction. If they have an internet connection, their age, race, sex and societal position will not bar them from participating in important conversations at will.
It's great that we have solutions. It would be better if we were implementing them, and if we had political leaders who believed in science and risk management.
Few things I find more frustrating right now than the peculiarly unscientific fatalism of the time.
Political fatalism is understandable, though. The best predictor of future political action/inaction is past political action/inaction.
The bad thing is that there is a propaganda machine against nuclear. Many are now being upgraded across this country and getting new 40yr licensing. A couple new plants are going in as well. Over a 40yr lifespan, a facility only creates enough waste for a small room
Emission free? Nah nuclear isn’t emission free as long as it produces the waste it does. Fukushima is emitting more than a little into the Pacific Ocean food chain.
Nuclear waste is quite small by volume, viable management strategies are well known, and deaths associated with nuclear accidents are miniscule relative to virtually any other form of power generation.pic.twitter.com/VbIldPURvN
