Let me tell you about real activism. Real activism is shutting down the streets and not taking no for an answer. It's about taking back what's ours from the power holders and negating the status quo. It is ugly, sometimes it comes with consequences like jail. It exposes lies.
Yep, people are hyperaware these days, but the masses won't act. Signing petitions isn't enough. Marching in the #climatemarch isn't enough. You need to talk to powerful people and make them act on the problem.
the whole 'awareness' thing is bogus. Do people really not know these problems exist? It's really making noise (and money) under the name of the problem and then not really doing anything to solve it.
Action is hard. It imposes costs in time, effort, and money. And most working-age folks have full-time jobs and full-time families that together take priority over "doing democracy." If it isn't broken ENOUGH, locally, there is no local incentive to fix it.
