If you care about the problem of ocean plastic, the other people who also care are your allies. They will be on board when you rally people to limit plastic pollution from ships. If they also want to marginally reduce their personal contribution to the problem, that’s fine.

95% or more of all ocean plastic comes from poor Asian countries w/o proper sanitation. All US straws get recycled or sent to a landfill dump. Only a rare straw that goes down a storm drain could possibly end up in the ocean.
